SOAR (Southeast Organized Area of Residents)
Many residents of SOAR have been community activists for years, with the southeast’s Broadway Christian Parish at the center of their efforts and serving as a hub for service. But this is a diverse and dynamic community with lots of new faces, including Jeremiah Sult and the other team members of the Bowman Creek Environmental Education and restoration project.
Because the creek runs through Ravina Park and other parts of the SOAR neighborhood, the team’s work in planning rain gardens and protecting the health of the waterway — work done in cooperation with University of Notre Dame, IU South Bend and other community partners — is focused on these residents.
But SOAR is also home to arts venues like LangLab, the sports and recreation facilities at Studebaker Park, and local businesses like Super Mercado Rosales. South Bend Fire Department and Ivy Tech have main facilities in the SOAR neighborhood too, along with Riley High School and a diverse group of faith-based institutions.
